21st Century Swimming Venue

2012 sees an exciting change in the swimming program taking advantage of the new 19 million dollar redevelopment of the Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre which includes a heated indoor pool.

The AUSSI swimming club is looking forward  to presenting an Inaugural Short Course Competition. Kay Bailey (Sports Convenor), is excited about the new program “Being able to provide a short course format for the swimming this year offers new opportunities for everyone”.

The experienced, faster swimmers can look to establishing new records for each event, while those newer to the sport can take advantage of the shorter distances to have a go.”

The Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre opened in April 2011, the star feature is a new 25 metre indoor heated 8 lane pool. The centre boasts other exciting facilities including two water slides, an upgraded kiosk and cafe, spectator seating, amenities and a second 20 metre pool which features an indoor spa and lazy river and a four lane learn to swim section with disabled ramp access.

The new facility has already played host to the Inaugural Northern Territory Short Course Championships and the Alice Springs AUSSI Masters Interclub events.

The full swimming program is available under ‘downloads’ on the website. Should you require any further information, please contact the swimming convenors Kay Bailey and Leslie Newey at swimming@alicespringsmastersgames.com.au.
