Q & A with Swimming Competitor Fleur Summers

At 29 years old Fleur Summers (pictured on the right) is one of the youngest competitors registered for the Games.

How long have you been swimming competitively?

I have never swum competitively. My last memory of being in a swimming race was my Year 10 swimming carnival where I was disqualified for attempting to do a freestyle kick in a breast stroke race!

How long have you been involved in the Masters Games?

I worked as a volunteer in 2014, but apart from that this will be my first time being involved as a competitor.

Why do you choose to participate?

I love watching competitive swimming, at the Olympics for example, and as a triathlete it’s the leg I enjoy the most, so I thought I’d challenge myself this year and compete against the best!

What is your favourite memory of the Games?

The closing ceremony. It’s one of my only memories of the Games.

What would you say to encourage other young people to compete?

You’re older than you realise when you qualify for the Masters!
